Baseline for IUI

I had my baseline CD3 ultrasound for our IUI. I thought I'd have to give blood again today but I didn't so that was good I suppose.

My next appointment is on CD13/April 4th for another ultrasound to check how the follicles are growing. If they're the right size I'll trigger them and we'll be back in a day or two for the IUI!

#18

On to Cycle #18. I got my period yesterday. 2 days earlier than normal, so my luteal phase was only 12 days instead of the 14 it usually is. So now we're moving on to IUI. I will get CD3 testing tomorrow morning and my predicted date of IUI is April 6th or 7th. I spoke with my drs office yesterday and they are going to order the ovidrel through some pharmacy in Miami which will get the cost down to $100 instead of $189 which is great. I still have to pick the clomid up from the pharmacy here and start that CD5. Previously the ony symptom I had while on clomid was some hot flashes, but seeing as how I'm typically always freezing I think it just brought my temperature up to normal standards lol. I have an acupuncture appointment next Tuesday and will get those once a week for this cycle at least.

Who Knew?!

Who knew that different pharmacies price drugs differently?! After reading around on the internets I found a lot of differentiation in what people have paid for prescriptions for Ovidrel, which is what my doctor prescribed as the trigger shot for our April IUI. I've read that Pregnyl and Novarel are also trigger shots. So yesterday I decided to call around to some different pharmacies and find their pricing for all three.

My regular Kroger priced Ovidrel at 189, which is why I balked and started looking into this in the first place. Because of course my insurance covers none of the cost of the trigger.

So I've asked my doctor if she would prescribe Pregnyl instead. So I can cut my costs by $90.00.

Surgery Update

Today is 3 days post surgery and Husband is healing nicely. He is still sore, as he puts it, but hasn't been taking his pain meds since yesterday so it can't be too bad :) He goes in for a check up with the surgeon in 3 weeks and in 2 months he will have another sperm analysis through our RE, since it's almost $200 cheaper to get a SA through the specialst than through U of M health. U of M health has taken us for a ride when it comes to costs. It's ridiculous.

Also ridiculous!? The $189 I have to pay out of pocket for ONE injection of Ovidrel for our first IUI cycle as my insurance covers zero dollars of it. WTF.

Varicocele Surgery Day!

Yesterday was varicocele surgery day for Husband. The surgery itself lasted about an hour and a half; we were at the surgery center for about 4 hours. Not too bad. He was so drugged up when I first came into the recovery room. This is how our first conversation went:

*M cocks his head, squints at me with confused eyes as I sit down*
M: we're married?
S:....yes.....
M: *nods his head a bit* cool.

.
.
.
M: *still squinty eyed* do we have sex?
S:.....yes......
M: *nods his head* nice.

He had some gooooood drugs. I'm glad he still thought I was attractive even when drugged and not knowing who I am.

But really, he's doing great. He was up and moving yesterday with just a little bit of pain. He's trying to be manly and not take the pain killers they prescribed him. He only had a little bit of swelling as well! The dr. said everything went well. They tied off a few big veins in there. Hopefully we will see some improvement.

TSH Update

The dr. called with my test results from Monday. My TSH level is now at 1.86. It's below the 2.0 they want so she's not increasing my meds at this time. Yay!

#ScienceBaby

We met with the RE yesterday to review recent test results and come up with a plan for the future.
My CD3 ultrasounds was alright. I had 10 follicles. But my FSH is at 11 which is less than optimal. I don't smoke, am not overweight, don't have endometriosis, or any of the other things the dr. listed as probably causes. So that sucks.

The ultrasound also showed a small cyst on my right ovary which they will continue to monitor moving forward.

With my issues and with Husband's issues we've decided to go ahead with IUI which we will begin on my next cycle. I'll take get an ultrasound on CD3, take clomid 5-9, get another ultrasound on CD13, do the trigger shot hopefully that day and then the actual IUI 2 days after the trigger shot. Mike is happy because he will be able to do his thing at the clinic and not have to worry about driving his specimen at breakneck speed completely across metro Detroit.

At the end of my appointment I did have to get more blood drawn to recheck my TSH level which is elevated again to a 2.5. For pregnancy they really want TSH at 2.0 or lower. I'm on thyroid meds currently and when I had my levels checked in January it was down to a 2.07 but it's gone back up. If it is still elevated the dr. said she would put me on a slightly stronger dose to get it back down to the 2.0ish range.

Husband's varicocele surgery is this Thursday (2 days!). Hopefully that will help in this whole equation as well (there are a lot of "hopefully"s in here, spot a trend?).

But really:
